Earthquake tremors were felt in Uttarakhand at 1:42 pm in many parts including Dehradun. The magnitude of the earthquake was measured at 3.8 on the Richter scale.
There is no report of any damage to property due to the earthquake. Uttarakhand is considered very sensitive in terms of earthquakes.
Small earthquakes keep happening in the state. The state has been kept in Zone 4 and 5 due to its seismic sensitivity.
According to geologists, earthquakes occur due to the energy stored inside the earth due to the friction of the Indian and Eurasian plates. However, no major earthquake has been felt in Uttarakhand since 2017. But micro seismic shocks keep coming here.
Scientists are calling the earthquake on Tuesday a moderate earthquake. The epicentre of the earthquake was 10 km below the ground in Dehradun.
