His Swahili-given moniker translates to “one who is blessed.” Barack Obama’s mom, Stanley Ann Dunham, is born in Kansas, and his dad, Barack Hussein Obama Sr., belonged to Kenya.

2. Early Childhood

Barack Obama resided in Indonesia alongside his stepfather and mom from the age of 6 until 10. He returned to Hawaii in 1971 and resided amongst his mother’s parents.

Barack Obama proceeded to Columbia University in New York following spending two years studying liberal arts at Occidental Institute in Los Angeles. At Columbia, he received his degree in politics.
