On Sunday, there was heavy rain in Jaipur, the capital of Rajasthan. Along with heavy rain, more than 16 people who were roaming in the Amer Fort area of ​​the city died due to lightning. More than 35 people were injured when lightning struck the watch tower in front of Amer Mahal in Jaipur. Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot has expressed grief over the deaths due to lightning in the state and has also announced financial assistance of Rs 5 lakh each to the next of kin of the deceased.

Jaipur Police Commissioner Anand Srivastava said that so far 29 people have been rescued from Amer Phot area with the help of local people. All of them have been taken to the hospital, out of which 16 people have died so far. Many scorched people have been admitted to SMS Hospital in Jaipur. Along with Jaipur, many people have lost their lives due to lightning in Kota, Dholpur, Baran and Jhalawar.

CM Ashok Gehlot expressed grief

Expressing grief over this incident, CM Ashok Gehlot has said that the loss of lives due to lightning in Kota, Dholpur, Jhalawar, Jaipur and Baran today is very sad and unfortunate. My deepest condolences to the families of the affected, may God give them strength. Instructions have been given to the officials to provide immediate assistance to the families of the victims.

On the other hand, BJP leader Rajyavardhan Singh Rathore has expressed grief over this incident and said that the news of many casualties including children due to lightning in Dholpur, Kota, Jaipur, Jhalawar and Baran of Rajasthan is very sad. Praying to God to give peace to the departed souls, speedy recovery to the injured and strength to their families in this difficult time.

According to the Meteorological Department, 63 mm i.e. 2.40 inches of rain was recorded in Jaipur within an hour today. This is more than the total rainfall received in the entire month in July 2020 last year. It rained 40.4 mm in July 2020.
