The Purnima (Full Moon Day) has great importance in Hinduism. The Purnima of Shukla Paksha of Kartika Month is known as Kartik Purnima, and the goddess of wealth, Goddess Lakshmi is worshipped on this day. Charity and other religious works done on this day are considered very fruitful.

This Year (2021), the festival of Kartik Purnima will be celebrated on 19 November.

  • The Purnima Tithi begins: 12:02 PM, 18 November 2021.
  • The Purnima Tithi ends: 02:29 PM, 19 November 2021.

Significance, and Importance

The Purnima comes every month, but the Purnima of Kartika Month is considered most fruitful among all purnimas. As per believes, the charity performed on this day are particularly fruitful. Along from Goddess Lakshmi, Brahma, Vishnu and Shiva, all three are also worshipped on this day. In some parts of the country, Tulsi and Shaligram also get married on this day. As per shastras, by bathing in holy rivers like – Ganga, Yamuna on this day, one gets blessings from Lord Vishnu.

Puja Vidhi and Samagri

  • On the day of Kartik Purnima, one should offer a diya at any lake or place of religion.
  • One should take holy bath in Brahmamuhurta by mixing Ganga Jal in the simple water.
  • Keeping a fast, a lamp of pure desi ghee should be lit in front of Idol of Lord Vishnu.
  • After doing tilak of Lord Vishnu, worship with Dhup and offer fruits, flowers and naivedya etc.
  • After Worshipping Lord Vishnu again in the evening, offer Kasaar roasted in the desi ghee along with Panchamrit to Shri Hari.
  • Make sure to include basil leaves in it.
  • After this, worship Goddess Lakshmi along with Lord Vishnu and perform aarti.
  • After the moon comes out, offer Arghya and open the fast with prasad.
