List Of Members of the House Who Dissented From Their Parties On Assault Weapons Prohibition

Assault Weapons Ban Case: On Friday, the Senate marginally approved a bill restricting gun ownership, with two Republicans and five Democrats voting against the wishes of their party leadership.

The Assault Weapons Prohibition of 2022 bill was approved by a vote of 217 to 113. Republican voter one abstained.

Even though a ban on handguns was one of the current party’s top priorities as the special elections drew nearer, just five Democrats voted against the bill.

The Members In Support Of Assault Weapons Ban

Ron Kind (D-Wis.), Kurt Schrader (D-Ore.), Vicente Gonzalez (D-Texas), Jared Golden (D-Maine), and Reps. Henry Cuellar (D-Texas), everyone voted, “no”.

As per a GOP House staffer, the Republican leadership advised republicans of the conferences to reject the plan. Chris Jacobs (R–NY) and Reps. Brian Fitzpatrick (R–PA) nevertheless continued to pass the legislation despite their urgings.

The support even against proposals from Cuellar and Golden was expected.

Golden demonstrated his opposition to the plan on Friday by voting against the regulation of the legislation. He has also opposed several gun-related expenses in history, such as one to nationalize red flag legislation, a bipartisan bill on firearm safety that would have been approved by the Legislature, and a shipment of gun legislation that, among many other things, would have raised the legal age to purchase tractor trailer weapons from 18 to 21.

People Opposing Banning Of Guns

Cuellar indicated last month that he’d never support the legislation by stating, “I don’t agree with gun prohibitions.”

Gonzalez also supported the assault rifle ban regulation on Friday, indicating that he would probably oppose the proposal when it came up for a roll call vote.

The representative urged the Legislature to take up gun control laws that the House had already enacted, such as those that would forbid civilian use of elevated ammunition and strengthen criminal record checks.

Schrader, who had previously expressed concerns about assault rifle bans, was the third Democrat to vote against the regulation on Friday.

The Oregon Lawmaker added that he was worried more about assault rifle prohibition because he thought it would jeopardize the federal legislation that Biden approved last month after being approved by Parliament on a national basis.
