Maine swimmers warned to use caution after woman killed in an apparent shark attack

BAILEY ISLAND (WGME) — Maine Marine Patrol is warning swimmers and boaters to use caution close to Bailey Island after a woman was killed on Monday in a shark attack.

Officers recognized the sufferer as 63-year-old Julie Dimperio Holowach, of New York Metropolis.

The Harpswell group is shocked. The apparent attack occurred off White Sails Lane.

The Maine Marine Patrol stated a witness noticed Holowach swimming Monday afternoon off the shore of Bailey Island. They stated she was badly injured in what appeared to be a shark attack.

Marine Patrol stated close by kayakers rushed over and introduced her to shore.

Holowach by no means made it to the hospital. First responders pronounced her useless on the scene.

Marine Patrol is now warning swimmers and boaters to use caution in the world and to steer clear of faculties of fish and seals.

Native researcher warns extra sharks are visiting Maine waters

Residents say the information is a shock for a lot of who spend time in the water.

“And I used to be simply pondering this place is so secure. Swimming round there’s not even like sharp issues to stand on. It is similar to, superb. perhaps a few lobsters. So, it’s kind of worrying that there is a shark cruising round,” Robert Vanderfeyst stated.
