Malerkotla new district: Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh has announced to make the Muslim-dominated area Malerkotla a district on the occasion of Eid Mubarak. The Chief Minister announced to set up a medical college at Malerkotla in memory of Nawab Sher Mohammad Khan at a cost of Rs 500 crore, a college with a cost of Rs 12 crore for girls, the opening of a separate women police station for women. Apart from this, CM also announced to give ten crore rupees for the construction of the bus stand.

Malerkotla with a Muslim population was established in 1454. With this announcement of the Chief Minister, there will now be 23 districts in Punjab. At the same time, the Chief Minister announced a grant of Rs 500 crore for medical college to be formed from the minority quota in Malerkotla. He announced to give Rs 50 crore as the first installment to the college.

The CM said that Amargarh and Ahmedgarh will also be included in Malerkotla district. Till now, Malerkotla used to be under Sangrur district. The Chief Minister said that which villages will be included in the new district will be decided later, the Deputy Commissioner of this district will be appointed soon.
