According to amarujala.com, Mangal Pandey was born on July 19 1827 in Ballia, Uttar Pradesh. To liberate the country, he revolted against British rule. Born in a Brahmin family in Nagwa village of UP, Mangal Pandey was a soldier in the Bengal Native Infantry of the East India Company at the age of 22. The state government has decided to celebrate the birth anniversary of the young revolutionary. On 29 March 1857, he attacked the British at Barrackpore and injured them. Mangal Pandey was sentenced to death for shooting and attacking English officers, but he was hanged ten days before the due date.
