On this day, the Mahagauri form of Maa Durga is worshipped. The Masik Durgashtami of Ashadh month is on Thursday, July 7, 2022.

The Ashtami date of Shukla Paksha of Ashadh month will start at 10:18 on Wednesday, the 6 days of July. Ashtami Tithi will end on July 7 at 9:58 am. On the basis of the Udaya date, the fast of Masik Durga Ashtami will be kept on July 7 only.

According to india.com, According to mythological beliefs, centuries ago the Asuras became very powerful on earth and they started ascending to heaven. He killed many gods and created havoc in heaven. The most powerful demon among them was Mahishasura. Lord Shiva, Lord Vishnu, and Lord Brahma created Goddess Durga in the form of Shakti. Each deity provided a special weapon to Goddess Durga. After this, Adishakti Durga came to earth and killed the demons. Maa Durga fought with Mahishasura’s army and eventually killed him. From that day the festival of Durga Ashtami started.
