Mehul Choksi claim – kidnapped for talking to a big leader of India

Fugitive diamond trader Mehul Choksi, accused in the PNB scam, has mentioned India’s big leader for his alleged kidnapping. Mehul Choksi has claimed in a complaint letter to the Antigua Police that he was kidnapped from Antigua to Dominica for talks with a top leader of India.

On the other hand, Mehul Choksi’s claim of kidnapping from the Caribbean islands of Antigua and Barbuda has been repeatedly rejected by Antigua Prime Minister Gaston Browne, saying that the police will investigate this “serious” crime.

Antigua’s PM Brown said in a radio interview,

“The kidnapping is a serious crime and considering the veracity of that claim, law enforcement and executives are deeply concerned. And that’s why I said it requires vigilance and monitoring and to ensure that we increase our security to protect our citizens and residents.”

The Antigua PM had earlier also dismissed Choksi’s claims, saying that Antigua and Barbuda do not have a “culture of kidnapping”. However, Mehul Choksi has not told the name of that big leader of India to the police. Choksi’s bail application is to be heard in Dominica on Tuesday.

Mehul Choksi’s girlfriend?

Earlier, Antigua PM Brown had claimed that Choksi had gone to Dominica to have a ‘good time’ with his ‘girlfriend’.

Mehul Choksi, in his complaint on June 2, has alleged that his girlfriend Barbara Jabarika played a key role in his abduction. Also, in his complaint to the Royal Police Force of Antigua and Barbuda, Choksi has named “Indians” Narinder Singh and Gurmeet Singh as accused besides other unidentified people. Mehul has said in the complaint that these people beat him up and forcibly took him on a boat and interrogated him.

Choksi is currently in a Dominican hospital and is undergoing treatment for the injury sustained during the alleged abduction.

In the complaint, Choksi has claimed that Narendra Singh, who introduced himself as the ‘Chief Agent of the case’, told her that he would soon meet a ‘high ranking Indian leader’, about Choksi’s citizenship, in the Dominican Republic. Everything is ‘fixed’ with the officials and he will be sent back to India.

Dominican Prime Minister Roosevelt Skerritt said Choksi’s rights would be respected as has been done so far and let the court decide what would happen. He further said, “As far as the matter is related to Antigua and/or India, we have no problem. We are part of our community and we must recognize our duties and responsibilities in this regard.”
