Muharram 2022: The Muslim community belonging to the Shia Society observes this holy festival of Muharram as the time when they grieve death by recalling Hazrat Imam Hussain. The process of grieving begins on the first sundown of the holy month and the same continues for the next two months along with eight days. The initial ten nights of the celebration are emphasized more than the remainder of the month.

On the very first day of Muharram, the Islamic society covers themselves up with black-colored hijabs and kurtas and offers condolences. In Islamic society, Black is considered the symbolic color of the process of mourning. The Shia Muslim community plans and attends street marches on the 10th day. On the bare roads, they walk with naked feet. They suppurate and enthusiastically sing in remembrance of Hussain.

The final day of Muharram, the tenth day is a nationally recognized holiday. Government agencies, banks, and Post offices must therefore be shut on that particular day. Enterprises and Islamic shops may be closed or operate with shortened hours.
