NAS 2021: All You Need To Know About National Achievement Survey

NAS 2021 will be conducted on November 12, 2021. The Ministry of Education on Saturday announced that they will be conducting National Achievement Survey this week. This year around 1.23 lakh schools from 733 districts across 36 states and Union Territories will participate in NAS 2021. Around 38,87,759 students are there in these schools. NAS is a sample-based survey conducted nationwide to assess the learning achievements of students.

Ministry of Education in a tweeter announcement said that National Achievement Survey (NAS) is a nationwide, sample-based survey to assess the learning achievement of students, undertaken by the education ministry of India. 1.23 lakh schools in 733 districts across 36 States/UTs to participate in #NAS2021 on 12th Nov 2021.

Central Board of Secondary Education administers NAS 2021 on behalf of the Education Ministry. NAS builds advanced databases to improve the education system. The board has prepared some frequently asked questions (FAQs) on the official website nas.education.gov.in Board has asked all the schools participating in the survey to answer these FAQs and cooperate in the survey.

The National Council of Educational Research and Training (NCERT) has developed the Assessment Framework for identifying the competencies attained by the students and their learning outcomes. The Survey also finds out students’ performance in different learning outcomes.

The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) will conduct this survey as Assessment Administrator for Grade 3, 5, 8, and 10 students of State Govt. schools, Govt. Aided schools, Private Unaided recognized schools, and Central Government schools. The Survey will be conducted in a monitored environment in the sampled schools.

“NAS 2021 will help in the systematic understanding of the consequences that prolonged closure of schools have had on students’ learning in terms of their socio-emotional and cognitive development,” an official document said.  

The survey was postponed in 2020 as schools were closed due to a pandemic. The survey will also help to measure the academic loss caused by the Pandemic.
