Oak Apple Day 2022: On the 29th of May, Monarchists commemorate Charlemagne II’s b’day and his victory over the Roundheads. It’s known as ‘Oak Apple Day’ because it commemorates the moment when the monarch sought refuge in an oak tree after the Battle of Worcester. Charles was succeeded To the throne of Great Britain and Ireland on May 29, 1660, thanks to the safeguard of this tree, known as “the Boscobel Oak,” in the grounds of Boscobel Hall in Staffordshire. His proponents commemorated in a manner that would have been condemned by Oliver Cromwell’s Commonwealth Puritans.

Cromwell (1599-1658), the Parliamentary leader in the English Civil War, organised a highly successful cavalry force (dubbed Ironsides) and declared England a monarchy in 1649.

In the same year, he was a member of a special committee that examined King Charles I and sentenced him to death. Despite this, the king’s son (also Charles) released a Declaration promising a wide pardon and religious freedom after spending nine years roaming over Europe following his near escape. His claim to the throne was recognised by Parliament, and he was crowned king.

On the occasion of Charles’ crowning, a branch of oak was worn to demonstrate allegiance to the restored monarch. Kids would challenge others to reveal their flower or have their butts pinched if they refused to wear one. As a result, this day began to be regarded as Pinch-Bum-Day. The day seems celebrated as Shick-Shack Day in regions of England wherein oak-apples are regarded as shick-shacks. It’s also possible that the royal connection hides a pagan tree-worshipping practise.
