There is a scarcity of oxygen for the treatment of patients suffering from corona in the country. A hearing was held in the Supreme Court on the petition of Vedanta Limited on Friday for the supply of oxygen. Hearing this petition, the Supreme Court said that at a time when the country needs oxygen, the problem cannot be increased by citing the law.

In fact, in this petition, copper manufacturer Vedanta Limited has sought permission to restart its plant in Tamil Nadu, so that medical oxygen can be manufactured. The company has talked about giving oxygen free.

SC asks questions to the Tamil Nadu government

By restarting the Starlight plant in Tamil Nadu, the Supreme Court heard the petition of Vedanta Limited for the manufacture of medical oxygen there. The court said that at a time when the country is struggling for the supply of oxygen, the problem cannot be increased by citing the law.

The Supreme Court’s comment came at a time when, on 22 April, the court said that in view of the state of the covid-19 epidemic, the situation in the country has almost become a national emergency. After this, the Supreme Court agreed to hear the petition of Vedanta Limited attached to the oxygen plant. Vedanta Limited said that it will produce 1000 tonnes of oxygen and make it available for the treatment of corona patients for free.

According to the Borrow and Bench, the bench headed by Chief Justice SA Bobde said that whether the Tamil Nadu government can produce oxygen and the state government submitted the proposed plan in this regard by Monday. Why don’t you fulfill your responsibility regarding the production of? Just because you have a problem with Vedanta, why won’t you allow this to be produced? What kind of dispute is this. We are not interested in knowing whether this plant is being run by Vedanta or anyone else. We are only interested in being sure of producing oxygen. This is not a question of Vedanta. People are dying Can the state government produce oxygen.

Tamil Nadu government’s plea

On behalf of the Tamil Nadu government, Senior Advocate CS Vaidyanath said that the Tamil Nadu government says that the reopening of this plant may cause problems with law and order because the local people are opposed to it. There is a great lack of trust between the people and the company of Tamil Nadu. 13 people have died in this case.

Why is Vedanta’s Starlight plant closed?

Copper maker Vedanta Ltd has sought permission to reopen its plant in Tamil Nadu by an application in the Supreme Court, which has been closed for violation of environmental laws. Also, the local people are against this plant.

Vedanta Limited said that, the country is in the grip of Kovid and at such a time it wants to help in the production of medical oxygen.

At the same time, the central government has also supported Vedanta’s request. Solicitor General Tushar Mehta said that the country is in great need of oxygen. In such a situation, Vedanta’s plant should be allowed to be restarted for the production and supply of oxygen.
