History and Significance (Timeline)

On 11 September 2001, 19 al-Qaeda Militants first hijacked 4 Boeing 767 passenger aircraft. And crashed 2 of them into the Twin Towers of the World Trade Center, New York City. Thousands of people and board members present inside the buildings were killed in this incident. The speed of the aircraft was estimated to be 987.6 km/h. Within 2 hours, both buildings fully collapsed and all people present inside died. After the Twin Towers, militants crashed 3rd plane into Pentagon in Arlington, Virginia, outside Washington DC.

According to that time news reports, about 2,977 people died in that incident. But, according to recent news, 2 more deaths have been identified after 20 years of the incident. In the fourth plane targeted toward Washington DC, some hostage passengers and the flight crew tried an attempt to regain control, but the plane crashed into a field near Shanksville in rural Pennsylvania. And everyone lost their lives.

After the incident, al-Qaeda founder Osama bin Laden took responsibility for the attacks. The day after the attack, then-mayor Rudy Giuliani told reporters that they were receiving mobile phone calls from people trapped in the debris. The task of removing debris and rubble continued well into 2002, with some 108,000 truckloads of 1.8 million tons of rubble removed by May 2002. After nearly 10 years of the Incident on 2 May 2011, al-Qaeda founder Osama bin Laden was killed by American secret forces in midnight in Pakistan.
