PM Modi arrives at Sabarmati Ashram, inaugurates ‘Amrit Mahotsav of Independence’ #DandiMarch

Prime Minister Narendra Modi today inaugurated the ‘Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav’ in Ahmadabad. With this, he will flag off a 241-mile-long padayatra from Sabarmati Ashram in Ahmedabad to Dandi. Union Minister of State for Culture and Tourism (Independent Charge) Prahlad Singh Patel said that the government has decided to organize a series of events to commemorate the 75th anniversary of India‘s independence as the ‘Amrit Mahotsav of Independence’.

Minister Prahlad Singh Patel said that these programs will start from 12 March 2021 and will run till 15 August 2022. He informed that the governments of states and union territories will also organize programs on Friday. Patel said, ‘Prime Minister Narendra Modi will inaugurate the Amrit Mahotsav of Independence tomorrow and will leave for a padyatra from Sabarmati Ashram.

25 days walking tour

Patel said, ‘The Prime Minister will flag off the padayatra from Sabarmati Ashram in Ahmedabad for Dandi at Navsari. The 241-mile walk will last 25 days and end on April 5, 2021. The padayatra will have 81 pedestrians. “The minister said that he would lead the 75-km first leg of the padayatra.” The Minister of Culture and Tourism said that Mahatma Gandhi had taken the famous Dandi Padyatra with 81 persons from March 12 to April 6, 1930, and broke the law imposing a tax on salt.

Programs will be held for 75 weeks

Patel informed that weekly programs will be organized under the Amrit Mahotsav during the coming 75 weeks till 15 August 2022. Patel said that there will be an event every week. To ensure the participation of all the citizens in the festival, various programs will be organized according to the interest of the people and the Ministry of Culture will help in this.
