History and Significance

In the 400s, Saint. Patrick is known for bringing Christianity to Ireland. The governmental apostle of Ireland and its patron saint are both St. Patrick. Maewyn Succat was St. Patrick’s real identity, and he was raised in Britain. He was captured as a slave when he was 16 years old during a raid on his family’s home by a cluster of Irish men.

Saint. Patrick was transferred to Ireland and subsequently imprisoned for several years before he managed to escape and return to England as a youngster. And since the word Patricius signifies “father” in Latin, he changed it to that after getting religious instruction in England and becoming a priest.

Patrick returned to Ireland as a priest to spread the gospel of Christian beliefs among the Irish. Shamrocks are a ubiquitous St. Patrick’s Day symbol all over the world since it is stated that he used them to preach the Holy Trinity (Father, Son, and Holy Spirit) to the Irish people.

By incorporating Irish culture into his teachings, St. Patrick had a unique method of reaching out to his audience. As illustrations, the Trinity was explained using a shamrock, and the Celtic cross was created by putting the sun on that same cross.
