Worrying figures have also emerged from Punjab among the cases of fast-growing coronavirus in many parts of the country. Punjab Chief Minister Amarinder Singh said on Tuesday that 401 samples of the coronavirus had been sent for ‘genome sequencing’, of which 81% confirmed the strain of the virus in Britain.

Expressing concern over the status of the COVID-19 pandemic, Amarinder Singh requested Prime Minister Narendra Modi to extend the vaccination coverage to people under 60 years of age. Singh said that it is necessary to vaccinate as many people as possible to break the chain of infection.

However, the government announced on Tuesday that from April 1, all the people above 45 years of age will be able to get COVID-19 vaccine in the country.
