The landslide caused by heavy rains in Champawat of Uttarakhand, 150 people stranded on the highway

Champawat Landslide: In the Champawat district of Uttarakhand, the rains have continued for the last several days. 150 people were trapped on the Tanakpur-Ghat National Highway due to landslide triggered by incessant rains in Champawat.

The Champawat district administration has made arrangements for lodging and food at the district headquarters for these people trapped due to traffic blockage due to landslide debris at Vishram Ghat on the highway, while the work of clearing the debris is going on.

Champawat District Disaster Management Officer Manoj Pandey said that due to incessant rains, traffic was stopped at eight places on the national highway on Tuesday due to landslides caused by mountains, out of which vehicular movement was restored at seven places till evening.

However, he said that despite tireless efforts, the heavy debris that had come up at Vishram Ghat could not be removed till 1 pm on Tuesday. He said that meanwhile, stranded passengers are being sent by roadways buses to Haldwani via Devidhura.

Pandey told that the work of opening the road was started again as soon as the morning. The work of clearing the debris is going on with the help of five JCBs, one Pokeland and one loader on the spot.
He said that a woman got washed away in water during rain in Ronigad of Barakat tehsil, for which a search and rescue operation is being conducted.
