UP Panchayat elections: voting continues in 18 districts in Corona time

The first phase of voting for the Uttar Pradesh Panchayat elections has finally started amid the Corona epidemic. Voting has begun at 7 am to form the government in the village. In the first phase, voting is going on in 18 districts today. Candidates are in the fray for the posts of Gram Pradhan, Gram Panchayat, Kshetra, and Zilla Panchayat members in these 18 districts.

Assembly elections are going to be held in Uttar Pradesh in the year 2022, before that the panchayat elections are being seen as ‘semi-finals’. From Samajwadi Party, BJP, Congress, BSP, AIMIM have fielded their candidates in the elections.

UP Panchayat elections: In the first phase, voting is being held in Ayodhya, Agra, Kanpur, Ghaziabad, Gorakhpur, Jaunpur, Jhansi, Prayagraj, Bareilly, Bhadohi, Mahoba, Rampur, Rae Bareli, Shravasti, Sant Kabir Nagar, Saharanpur, Hardoi, and Hathras districts.
Explain that the candidates for the post of Zilla Panchayat Member, Kshetra Panchayat Member (BDC), Gram Pradhan, and Gram Panchayat Ward Member are in the fray in this election.

In 18 districts, voting is being held for 779 posts of Zilla Panchayat member, 19,313 of Kshetra Panchayat and 14,789 posts of Gram Pradhan. 3,16,46,162 voters will use their franchise at 51176 polling booths. In the election, the fate of 2,99,012 candidates is at stake. In the 14,789 gram panchayats, there is a contest between 108562 candidates for the head position and 107283 candidates in the 186583 wards of the gram panchayats.

There was a demand to postpone the election

In view of Corona, BJP MPs to politicians have been appealing to postpone the election for the time being, but the election was not postponed. Regarding postponement of elections, BJP MP Kaushal Kishore from Mohanlalganj Lok Sabha seat of capital Lucknow had said,

‘Thousands of families are being ruined by the corona in Lucknow. There are piles of corpses at the cremation ghats. Election is not necessary but it is important to save people’s lives.

Corona Guidelines for Election

Corona-infected people have been allowed to vote by wearing PPE kits.

The State Election Commission has claimed safety and adherence to the Kovid-19 protocol during the voting.

Kovid protocols will be strictly followed at polling stations to prevent corona infection.

Outside the polling station, circles are built at a distance of six-six feet, so that the voters can follow the safe physical distance.

After the first phase on 15 April, votes will be cast on 19 April, 26 April and 29 April. The results of the election will be released on 2 May.
