Upcoming cricket events and tournaments for the Indian national team

As we all know, cricket is by far the most popular sport in India. Millions of Indians tune in to watch IPL matches on TV, and many more also attend games in person to cheer on their favorite teams from the stands. It’s also why all leading Indian bookmakers have huge numbers of cricket markets, both for domestic and international competitions. 

This year’s Indian Premier League season has now concluded, with the Gujarat Titans taking on the Rajasthan Royals in the final. The match, which took place in Ahmedabad was won by the Titans who managed to rise to the top of the league in their first season. 

With the IPL now drawn to a close, the attention of Indian cricket fans is focused firmly on the national team with a full schedule of fixtures. Let’s look at the highlights of these competitions and what we can expect to see. 

Indian Tour of Ireland 2022

At the end of June, India will head to Ireland for two matches against the Irish national cricket team. 

The first of the two games will occur on Sunday 26th June and will be played under the Twenty20 rules. The second will follow a few days later, on Tuesday 28th June and will also be a T20 match. 

Both fixtures are scheduled to take place at The Village Malahide in Dublin, a beautiful cricket ground situated north of the capital and surrounded by luscious greenery and the historic Malahide Castle. 

This will only be the fourth and fifth matches that these two teams have played together. India first competed against Ireland in 2009 on neutral ground in Nottingham, England. Nine years later, the two sides competed in two T20 International matches in Dublin. On all three occasions, India has come out on top. 

For this reason, most fans expect another Indian victory, but you’ll have to tune in to find out. 

Indian Tour of England 2022

After a short break, the Indian cricket team will take the short hop over the Irish Sea to England, where a two-week tour of the country that gave birth to the sport will begin. 

The tour will consist of seven stops at six different cricket grounds, giving many opportunities for fans from around the country to get a glimpse of the action. It will begin with the 5th test of the 2021 series at Edgbaston, which will last up to five days. This will be followed by three T20 International matches, the first at the Ageas Bowl on 7th July, the second at Edgbaston and 9th July, and the third at Trent Bridge on 10th July.

After these three T20 international matches, the team will head to the Kia Oval for a One Day International match on the 12th of July, followed by another ODI at Lords on the 14th, and a third at Old Trafford in Manchester on the 17th. 

India and England have a lot more history than India and Ireland, with almost a century of modern test matches and other games. In recent years, the two sides have been relatively evenly matched. India won three of the seven Tests since 2011, and England picked up the other four. 

Indian Tour of the West Indies 2022

India’s tour of the West Indies will begin just a handful of days after the team leaves England. It will begin with three One Day International games, all of which will be played at Queen’s Park Oval in the Port of Spain, Trinidad. They’re scheduled to take place on Friday 22nd, Sunday 24th and Wednesday 27th July. 

The two sides will then head to the Brian Lara Stadium in Tarouba, also in Trinidad, for the first of five T20 International matches on Friday 29th July. 

The following Monday, the tour movies to St Kitts, where the second T20I match will take place at Warner Park in Basseterre. They will be immediately followed by the third on Tuesday 2nd August. 

Next up, the tour will move abroad with two final T20I matches will be held at the Central Broward Regional Park Stadium in Lauderhill, Florida. It is the only cricket ground in the United States so it’s a great opportunity for Indians and Caribbean nationals living in the USA to see their teams in person. 

Over their entire history, these two sides have been fairly evenly matched, though India has dominated in Test matches more recently. However, there aren’t any Tests as part of this tour, so the West Indies may be in with a better shot at picking up some wins. 

With three tours between now and August, the Indian national team has their work cut out. But that won’t be everything; more fixtures are scheduled at regular intervals throughout the year, giving the players quite the workout.
