Well as many of you know, December 1st is celebrated as World AIDS day. The day is observed to spread awareness and show support to those who have been infected with this dangerous virus i.e HIV. World AIDS Day 2022: History

Back in 1987, the UN recognized first Worlds AIDS day. The main aim to observe this day was to spread awareness and relevant information among the people and local government. It was made by two concerned public information officers i.e Thomas Netter and James W. Bunn working at World Health Organization in Geneva, Switzerland. Since 1996, UNAIDS (the Joint United Nations Programme on HIV/AIDS) is responsible for organizing and publicizing it.

As of data collected in 2021, almost 38.4 million people are infected with HIV. Out of which 25.6 million are from the WHO African area. Even in the UK, every year around 4,000 people are diagnosed with the virus. And the discrimination that followed after that is still a concerning factor for many. 

World AIDS Day 2022: Theme

Every year, the UN come up with a new theme to make the day more relevant and publicise. This year’s theme is ” Equalize”. It encourages people to tackle the issues concerning the virus and to fight the injustice to get rid of AIDS.
