To recognize the importance of cotton, every year World Cotton Day is celebrated on 07 October. The aim of the day is to raise awareness of cotton, as its a global commodity that is grown in more than 75 countries across 5 continents and highlights its role in providing employment to about 4.8 million people. India is the biggest cotton producer in the world, leading the industry with 40% of the world total. According to Cotton Inc, 60% of women’s clothes contain cotton fibres, while 40% of them are made from all cotton. Let us tell you, Polyester is the world’s most commonly used fibre, which overtook cotton in 2002.

History, and Significance

World Cotton Day has not any long history. The first World Cotton Day was celebrated on 07 October, 2019. This is an inititative by a group of countries, called Cotton-4 countries: Benin, Burkina Faso, Chad and Mali. The day provied an opportunity to the companies of Cotton Industry, toshowcase cotton related activities and products and exhange their knowledge. The aim of the day is to raise awareness among more-to-more people about the benefits of using Cotton clothes. As the polyster clothes takes 20 to 200 years to decompose, while cotton can decompose in just 5-months.

What is Cotton? How it’s made?

Cotton is a natural fibre, grows with the seeds of Cotton Plants. Its fiber is most often spun into yarn or thread and used to make a soft, breathable textile.

There is no special environment, and field required for Cotton Plants. It can be grown in simple fields, where wheat, gram, pea, mustard also grows. Its comes in the category of Kharif Crops and growns Uttar Pradesh, Punjab, Haryana, Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra Gujarat, and some parts of Andhra Pradesh & Karnataka.

What is Polyster? How it’s made?

Polyster is a type of cloth, made from artifical fibers. It is a category of polymers that contain the ester functional group in every repeat unit of their main chain. It most commonly refers to a type called polyethylene terephthalate (PET).

As we already told you its artificial, so this is proveed that, polyster is not provided from any plant of animal. To Make polyster clothes, PET (Polyethylene Terephthalate) plastic pellets are melted and extruded through tiny holes to form long threads, then they cooled to harden into a fiber.
