History, and Significance

For the very first time, World Prematurity Day was celebrated on 17 November 2011.

Babies born prematurely have to face more problems than normal babies, such as difficulty in breathing due to immature lungs and brain. A long pause in the process of breathing is called apnea, which is caused by an immature brain. Premature baby’s reflexes are weak for sucking and swallowing which makes it difficult for them to get their food.

All the organs of such a child are not developed and their immune system is also very weak. Even the slightest carelessness in the care of premature newborn babies can be dangerous for their life. They are so fragile, weak, that even their organs are not developed properly, in such a situation it is necessary to keep them under the care of a proper doctor. Preterm babies stay in the hospital under the supervision of a doctor for several days. Even after coming home, the care of such a child should be done with great care and keeping in mind the cleanliness.
