Nationwide Bank Strike December 2021: Ruling DMK extends support to two-day nationwide bank strike

The ruling party in Tamil Nadu, Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) has extended support to the two-day nationwide bank strike of the bank employees against the government’s move to privatise two public sector lenders on December 16 and 17.

General Secretary and State Minister of the party, Durai Murugan wished the success of the strike and announced his party’s full support to the nationwide bank strike in December 2021 in which 9L employees of various State-run banks would take part.

Durai Murugan said in a DMK statement here, that DMK was supporting the strike when union representatives apprised party president and Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin about the “proper” reasons for the agitation.

He alleged that banks adopted human rights ‘violating’ methods to collect loans from farmers, small women entrepreneurs and students, but did not show equal intent towards big corporates.

“It is undemocratic that the BJP-led govt at the Center is keen to pass the Bank Privatization Bill (Banking Laws Amendment Bill, 2021) in the current winter session of Parliament,” he said.
