‘The Kashmir Files’ IMDb Rating Changes From 9.9 to 8.3, ‘Unusual activity’ Reported, Vivek Agnihotri Calls it Unethical

The “Kashmir Files,” directed by Vivek Agnihotri, is doing extremely well at the box office. Fans and critics alike have praised the film, which was made into a movie on March 11, 2022.

On IMDb, a prominent platform that hosts cinema and television audience ratings, the film received a 9.9/10 rating. The Kashmir Files’ rating system, however, has been altered, and the film now has an 8.3/10 rating.

Director Vivek Agnihotri soon reacted to the rating change and called it unethical.

On March 11, Vivek Agnihotri’s film, which stars Anupam Kher, Pallavi Joshi, Darshan Kumaar, and others, was published. The plot centres from around early 1990s flight of Kashmiri Hindus leaving the region owing to violence.

What The Officials Said

With almost 2 lakh votes, the rating is 8.3. While 94 percent of individuals gave it a 10 rating, only 4% gave it a 1 rating. On the webpage, there was also a notice that said,

“IMDb publishes weighted vote averages rather than raw data averages. The simplest way to explain it is that although we accept and consider all votes received by users, not all votes have the same impact (or ‘weight’) on the final rating. When unusual voting activity is detected, an alternate weighting calculation may be applied in order to preserve the reliability of our system. To ensure that our rating mechanism remains effective, we do not disclose the exact method used to generate the rating.”

Thus according to Taran Adarsh, a film industry expert, The Kashmir Files has grossed Rs 27.15 crore in India as of Sunday.
