Bhumi Pednekar is an Indian actress who works in Bollywood movies. She was born on July 18, 1989. She had her cinematic breakthrough as an overweight wife in Yash Raj Films’ rom com ‘Dum Laga Ke Haisha’ (2015), for which she won the Filmfare Award for Best Female Debut after six years as an associate casting supervisor.
Pednekar rose to notoriety in the comedy-drama films ‘Toilet: Ek Prem Katha’ (2017), ‘Shubh Mangal Saavdhan’ (2017), ‘Bala’ (2019), and ‘Pati Patni Aur Woh’ (2017), in which she played a rebellious small-town woman (2019). She got the Filmfare Critics Award for Best Actress for her depiction of the nonagenarian sharpshooter ‘Chandro Tomar in Saand Ki Aankh’ (2019).

‘Badhaai Do’ Her Recent Film’s Performance

Badhaai Do tells the narrative of Shardul (Rajkummar Rao) and Sumi (Bhumi Pednekar), two LGBTQ+ people who live together as housemates after agreeing to a’marriage of convenience.’ The film depicts how a person’s sexual preference identifies and determines their social fate. While Shardul, a police officer, and Sumi, a PE teacher, consent to this situation — dubbed a lavender marriage — to support their relationship quiet and avoid the incessant pressure to marry, their individual paths with their partners ultimately lead to numerous understandings about their circumstances. In his endeavour to sound humorous or add funny lines, filmmaker Harshvardhan Kulkarni talks about the importance in an incredibly mature and sympathetic approach, and he never trivialises the suffering homosexual people can get through.

Even though Rajkummar and Bhumi own and execute these roles onstage with ease and comfort, they continue to fight to be perceived as ‘regular people’ in society. This is where ‘Badhaai Do’ comes into play for me. It doesn’t get sanctimonious or tell homosexuals to become rebels. Nevertheless, the video depicts the genuine and ongoing atrocities they face on a daily basis, not only in society but especially at homes.
