Dunst starred in Showtime’s dark comedy On Becoming a God in Central Florida, which broadcast in August of that year. She received a Golden Globe nomination for Best Actress in a Comedy Series and a Critics Choice Award nomination for Best Actress in a Comedy Series for her performance. Showtime renewed the show for a second season in September 2019, but due to the COVID-19 pandemic, it was cancelled the next year.

Dunst co-starred in Jane Campion’s film The Power of the Dog, which was released in limited theatres in the United States on November 17, 2021, alongside her partner Jesse Plemons. For Best Supporting Actress, she was nominated for an Academy Award and a Golden Globe.
