National Smile Day 2022: Best Quotes, Posters, Images, Slogans, Messages

Every year on May 31, we commemorate National Smile Day, so bring your finest smile to this gathering. This day was created by Lake in the Hills, Illinois dentists Dr Tim Stirneman and Jim Wojdyla of Humanitarian Dental Care to, you guessed it, “Share with the world what the power of a good smile can achieve!” The best thing is that this day marks the start of National Smile Month!

History of National Smile Day

According to primatologist Signe Preuschoft, the evolution of smiling can be traced back to apes and monkeys. To assert dominance or ward off predators, these creatures bare their teeth in the shape of a smile. According to one idea, humans imitated this behaviour and the smile developed to express amusement and pleasure over time. Smiles, according to research, were a strategy for early people to attract mates on their journey to displaying happiness.

If you’ve ever questioned why older photographs often portray people without smiles, it’s because sweets and a bad diet caused a lot of tooth decay. Furthermore, the aristocratic belief that smiling and laughing was impolite and demonstrated a lack of personality or common courtesy was more widespread. Leonardo da Vinci’s “Mona Lisa” was one of the few exceptions, despite the portrait’s ambiguity being part of its reputation. Individuals started smiling even in photographs, this period with their teeth on display, as orthodontics and an ethos of authenticity grew.
