Anant Chaturdashi, also known as Ganesh Visarjan, occurs after the 10 days of Ganesh Chaturthi. Mostly it falls on the 14th day of the lunar fortnight. Considered the most special day in the Marathi culture. 

According to Hindu cultures and rituals, those who bring Lord Ganesha into their home for prosperity and wealth shower the deity with prayers and his favourite food. After 10 days of celebration, his journey comes to an end and the devotees thank him for the all blessing he has showered on them. 

The muhurat of pooja will start at 5:58 AM and will end at 6:07 PM on September 9 2022. 

According to the stories and legends, Ganesh Visarjan started during the period of the Maratha Empire mainly in the era of Chhatrapati Shivaji.  However, during the British Raj, the joyful celebration came to an abrupt end but it again gained momentum after India’s independence. Now the festival is celebrated with great enthusiasm and pride. 

On Ganesh Chaturthi, devotees bring their idols to nearby water bodies such as rivers or lakes for visarjan. Now many people are doing visarjan at home only in a bucket or bowl. 

The colourful parades and devotees dancing to the songs while taking the Ganesha for visarjan while chanting are pure divine and spiritual. The whole process is accompanied by beating drums with people singing “Ganpati Bappa Morya, Pudhchya Varshi Lavkar Ya”. Lord Ganesha is departed from the house of their devotees only to be bought again the next year with the same excitement and blessings.
