Guru Nanak Jayanti is one of the most auspicious Sikh festivals observed as the birthday of the first guru in the Sikh community i.e Guru Nanak. He is regarded as the founder of Sikhism. He played a significant role in forming and strengthening the Sikh community. The festival is celebrated on the full moon as per the Indian lunar month, Karik. The festival is also goes by the name Gurpurab or Guru Nanak’s Prakash Utsav, this day is celebrated with utmost pride and joy among Sikhs across the globe. Guru Nanak Jayanti 2022 Significance
Although there is no official origin of this festival, according to Sikh customs, Guru Nanak laid the first foundation for the Sikh community. It is said he is the pillar of the youngest religion in the world. Sikhism was founded by Guru Nanak who was born on 14th April, Vaisakhi according to the Nanakshahi calendar. However, there are few beliefs within the Sikh community that thinks Guru Nanak was born on the full moon day of the lunar month of Kartik which coincides with the month of October-November of the Gregorian calendar.
Devotees from the Sikh community celebrate the festival by decorating their houses and organizing a little get-together with family and friends. In the Golden temple, a grand feast was organized, and thousands of Sikh and Hindu families visit the temple to seek blessings and offer their prayers.
The festival is associated with great pride and is celebrated with enthusiasm and joy. Even Hindus like to celebrate this festival too. People go to Gurudwaras and recite verses from Guru Granth Sahib, the holy book of Sikhism and seek the almighty blessing and forgiveness.
