Veterans Day In The United States 2022: Best Quotes, Wishes, Images, Sayings, Greetings, Messages, Slogans, and Stickers

Veterans Day will be observed on November 11, 2022, and we have all the information you need to know. World War II veteran Raymond Weeks first observed Veterans Day in Alabama in 1945.

Veterans Day, formerly known as Armistice Day, is a holiday honoring all former members of the US armed forces, whether they were men or women. It is distinct from Memorial Day because the latter honors all veterans, not only those who died while serving their country. Veterans Day is observed on November 11 each year.

US President Woodrow Wilson established Veterans Day in 1919 as Armistice Day. The holiday was created following the First World War as a memorial to and celebration of the bravery and sacrifice of the dead troops. Seven years later, the US Congress passed a resolution and suggested President Calvin Coolidge designate November 11 as Armistice Day.

Raymond Weeks, a soldier in the Second World War, advocated for the need to honor all veterans on Armistice Day rather than just those who perished. After that, Weeks observed the inaugural Veterans Day in Alabama on November 11, 1945, and did so every year until his passing in 1985. Ronald Reagan presented Raymond Weeks with the Presidential Citizenship Medal in 1982.

President Dwight D. Eisenhower officially changed Armistice Day to Veterans Day on May 26, 1954, by signing a bill. Thus, on November 11, 1954, the first Veterans Day was observed on a national level. Armistice Day, which was created in 1919 by President Woodrow Wilson, was the previous name for Veterans Day.
