Happy Farmers Day or Kisan Diwas is celebrated on 23rd December in the country. It is observed to honour the contribution of farmers of India. It is also the birth anniversary of Choudhary Charan Singh, India’s 5th Prime Minister of India. History

The day is also the birth anniversary of Chaudhary Charan Singh, the Kisan leader who served as the 5th Prime Minister of India from July 28, 1979, to January 14, 1980. He also contributed towards the upliftment of farmers in India. He also introduced many schemes and bills to improve the situation of farmers. In 2001, the Indian government decided to mark his birthday as Kisan Diwas. 

Charan Singh followed the ideologies of the famous slogan- “JAI JAWAN JAI KISAN”. It was given by Lal Bahadur Shastri, the second Prime Minister of India.

Every year, the day is used as a way to highlight the importance of farmers towards our nation. It encourages the public to hear the farmer’s issues and honour the sacrifice made by them. The day also signifies on educating farmers about their rights as well as new technologies that may be beneficial for their land.
