In the Braj areas, also known as Barsana, Nandagaon, Gokul, Govardhan, Vrindavan, and Mathura, which are associated with Lord Krishna, the fortunate celebration of Holi is commemorated with pomp and circumstance. Both the Phoolwali Holi in Vrindavan and the Lathmar Holi, a traditional Holi celebration held in Barsana, are well-known worldwide.
The celebration is observed for two days: Chhoti Holi, also known as Holika Dahan, and Rangwali Holi, also known as Dhulandi. People build bonfires on Holika Dahan to symbolize the triumph of good over evil. They get up early the following day to play with hues or Gulal. Youngsters play with their friends while filling water balloons and toy guns. Moreover, sweet treats and thandai made especially for the occasion are enjoyed by the public.
