Cyclone Biparjoy To Hit Gujrat! 74,000 People Evacuated From Coastal Areas

On Thursday evening, Cyclone Biparjoy is set to land on the Coast of Gujrat. It has come near to less than 200 kilometers. High rainfalls and the storm is anticipated. As per the authorities, a total of 74,000 people have been evacuated from vulnerable areas. From 120 villages the people who were living living until 10 km from the seashore in Kutch have been shifted.

As per the IMD or India Meteorological Department, the landfall of cyclone Biparjoy is anticipated near Jakhau port. The cyclone may take the form of a highly severe cyclonic storm. The maximum wind speed is anticipated to upsurge up to 150 kilometers per hour. The rainfall intensity will increase gradually near the Jamnagar, Devbhumi Dwarka, and Kutch districts as the powerful weather system approaches the coast. Extremely heavy rainfall is also expected.

As per the Gujrat Health Minister, Rushikesh Patel, 40,000 people have been evacuated from the coastal villages. Until now 74,345 people have been evacuated to Gir Somnath, Porbandar, Junagadh, Devbhumi Dwarka, Rajkot, Morbi, Jamnagar, and Kutch.

According to the government, 397 teams of the state electricity department, 115 teams of the state road and building department, 12 teams of SDRF (State Disaster Response Force), and 15 teams of NDRF (National Disaster Response Force) have been deployed in various coastal districts of Gujrat. Other military forces are also kept on standby for relief and rescue post-cyclone.

Other arrangements have also been made such as the restoration of mobile networks, electricity infrastructure, and other infrastructure. An official release stated, “The famous Dwarkadhish temple in Devbhumi Dwarka and Somnath temple in Gir Somnath district will remain closed on Thursday for devotees and visitors.”

Cyclone Biparjoy would be the second cyclone to hit Gujrat in two years. The last cyclone that hit the state was Tauktae’ in May 2021.
