Back on 8th August 1942, the AICC conference approved the resolution for the Quit India movement. This is the day when the Quit India campaign was started, popularly known as  Bharat Chhodo Andolan.

For this movement, Mahatma Gandhi was positioned as a Chairman of the All India Congress Committee and decided to commence the movement from the Bombay session. It was Mahatma Gandhi who coined the phrase  “Do or die” at this time.

However, the movement ended in 1944. It is important to teach the young generation about this movement as it brings people together and fights against British Rule. 

QUIT INDIA MOVEMENT DAY: HISTORY, SIGNIFICANCE

After seeing the failure of Cripps Mission, it was decided to adopt the resolution of the Quit India movement during the Bombay session.

Also known as Bharat Chhodo, it was the start of a non-violent mass movement for India’s independence.

During the movement slogans including “Do or Die” and “Quit India” was adopted as a way to fight against the Britishers. 

Well as we all know, the match didn’t go as they thought it would. Many of Congress were surprisingly detained and imprisoned in different locations across the country. Additionally, the Congress Party got banned in the country. 

The renowned movement got failed due to pressure from the British government, a lack of good leaders, leadership, a weak action plan and a shady organization. But it brought every Indian together and promoted unity in India.

During the movement, many altercations with the police took place. Brtishers used every form of violence to stop movement including lathi charges, arrests and firings to name a few. By the end of the movement in 1942, around 60,000 prisoners were imprisoned.
