Every year November 26 is celebrated as National Constitution Day which is also known as Samvidhan Divas in India. The day is very important to the nation as the Book of Indian Constitutions was adopted in 1949. The Constitution came to power and became legally valid on January 29, 1950. The government of Indian decided to spread awareness and teach the values of the constitution on November 26 annually.

Back in the year 2015, the Indian government declared November 26 as Constitution Day. While B. R. Ambedkar’s statute of Equality who is also known as the father of the Indian constitution, was inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi this day was officially announced. November 26 is also the birthday of B. R. Ambedkar and on his 131st birthday, the memorial day was announced.

“WE, THE PEOPLE OF INDIA, having solemnly resolved to constitute India into a SOVEREIGN SOCIALIST SECULAR DEMOCRATIC REPUBLIC and to secure to all its citizens: JUSTICE, social, economic and political; LIBERTY of thought, expression, belief, faith and worship; EQUALITY of status and of opportunity; and to promote among them all FRATERNITY assuring the dignity of the individual and the unity and integrity of the Nation; IN OUR CONSTITUENT ASSEMBLY this twenty-sixth day of November, 1949, do HEREBY ADOPT, ENACT AND GIVE TO OURSELVES THIS CONSTITUTION.”
National Constitution Day 2023: Celebrations
The Department of Education and Literacy sets up a reading camp for all schools to make students aware of the contents of the constitution. Quizzes, and essay competition is also held which leads to prize distribution and encourages students to be more alert and participate in them.
