India is full of festivals, here we will be discussing one of the holy festivals of the Hindu community which is dedicated to Lord Shiva. Champa Shashti is a sacred festival for Lord Shiva. It is dedicated to the ferocious Warrior Khandoba, an incarnated form of Lord Shiva. He took the form to protect the people from demons Malla and his younger brother Mani who were mercilessly disturbing the community.

The festival is a celebration of Khandoba’s victory over the two evil brothers. Since that day, people across India celebrate and worship Khandoba, as a way to express their devotion and faith towards Shiva. This year it will be observed on 18 December.

The festival is mostly celebrated in Maharastra, Pune. The temple of Champa Sashti celebrates it with full enthusiasm and dedication. Devotees keep fast throughout the day for the next 6 days. Also, as a part of the ritual devotees offer him turmeric with apple, leaf and wood. According to ancient beliefs, if the devotees worship Khanduba with full faith and devotion then he will be protected from any harm by Lord Shiva.

For those who are aware, Khandoba is portrayed as a warrior and hunter. He is worshipped by farmers, herders and gatherers. The festival is a significant part of Maharastra and Pune as well as in Khandoba temple located in Jejuri in the region of Pune.

There are many benefits associated with Khandoba. It blesses devotees with a happy and positive life. Sins from your past are removed and any kind of barrier from your life will also be removed. People walk to the temple on foot, offer their prayers to the Lord and ask for his forgiveness.
