Why shouldn’t we allocate 1% budget to Muslims: Shivakumar on ‘appeasement’ allegations

Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister Questions Low Budget Allocation for Muslims

Bengaluru, Feb 17 (IANS) Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar has sparked controversy by questioning the low budget allocation for Muslims in the state. He expressed his concerns about the allocation of only Rs 3,000 crore out of a 3.71 lakh crore budget for the schools and development of Muslims, stating that even 1 per cent should be allocated to the community. Shivakumar addressed the media, criticizing the BJP for turning everything into a political issue.

The Karnataka government has allocated Rs 200 crore for the development of the Christian community and Rs 100 crore for the protection and development of Waqf properties. Additionally, they have made several announcements regarding the release of grants for these communities.

In response to speculation about the BJP and JD (S) planning to field a strong candidate against his brother, Shivakumar expressed confidence in the voters’ support. He cited his past electoral victories against prominent political figures, and emphasized that his brother, Suresh, is a dedicated ground-level worker.

Shivakumar dismissed concerns about the potential impact of a strong candidate from the opposition, stating that the voters have witnessed the difference in governance under various leaders. He reassured that the people’s judgment will prevail, regardless of the candidates fielded by the opposition parties.

The Deputy Chief Minister’s remarks have reignited debates about budget allocation and political strategies in the state of Karnataka.
