Sports Ministry clears Sathiyan, Manika's proposals for financial assistance to compete in WTT events

The Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports (MYAS) Mission Olympic Cell (MOC) has approved financial assistance for several Table Tennis players and other athletes for their participation in upcoming events. This includes Table Tennis players Sathiyan Gnanasekaran and Manika Batra, shuttlers Kiran George and Anupama Upadhaya, doubles women’s team of Treesa Jolly and Gayatri Gopichand, rifle shooter Rudrankksh Patil, and paddlers Diya Chitale and Swastika Ghosh.

Sathiyan Gnanasekaran will be participating in WTT Feeder and WTT Feeder 2 events in Beirut, Lebanon, while Manika Batra, along with her coach, will head to Singapore for WTT Singapore Smash followed by two WTT Feeder Tournaments in Beirut, Lebanon. MYAS, under its Target Olympic Podium Scheme (TOPS) funding, will cover the athletes’ airfare, boarding/lodging costs, coaching fees, insurance, visa costs, and local transportation costs among other expenditures.

In addition, Kiran George and Anupama Upadhaya will participate in the BWF Orleans Master, while the team of Treesa Jolly and Gayatri Gopichand, along with their coach and physio, will compete in the BWF German Open in Germany. Rudrankksh Patil will head to Dortmund, Germany to compete at the International Saison Start for Shooters (ISAS 2024) events.

Furthermore, paddlers Diya Chitale and Swastika Ghosh’s proposals for advanced level training in South Korea and Japan have also been approved. Diya will train in Paju-si, South Korea, under Coach Shin Min Sung, while Swastika Ghosh will train in Osaka, Japan, under Coach Qiu Jian Xin. The athletes’ airfare, boarding/lodging costs, coaching fees, insurance, visa costs, and local transportation costs will be covered under TOPS funding.

The Ministry’s release stated that the approved funding will cover the athletes’ airfare, boarding/lodging costs, coaching fees, insurance, visa costs, and local transportation costs, among other expenditures. The Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports has also cleared the requests for various equipment for Athletes Paramjeet Singh Bisht, D P Manu, Rohit Yadav, and Kapil.

All these approvals were made during the meeting of the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports (MYAS) Mission Olympic Cell (MOC) on Monday, providing the athletes with the necessary financial support for their upcoming events. This funding will play a crucial role in helping the athletes pursue their goals and aspirations in the world of sports.
