Netflix picks up Nisha Pahuja's Oscar-nominated docu feature 'To Kill A Tiger'

Netflix has acquired Nisha Pahuja’s documentary ‘To Kill a Tiger’, focusing on a father’s fight for justice after his 13-year-old daughter’s rape in Jharkhand. The film won Best Documentary at Palm Springs and premiered at Toronto International Film Festival in 2022.

The 127-minute documentary follows Ranjit, a Jharkhand farmer, as he seeks justice for his daughter’s gang rape. Director Nisha Pahuja, known for ‘The World Before Her’, captures Ranjit’s emotional journey after eight months of filming.

Executive producers Mindy Kaling, Dev Patel, and Priyanka Chopra Jonas have actively promoted ‘To Kill a Tiger’. ‘Variety’ film critic Siddhant Adlakha praises the film for its portrayal of modern non-fiction in South Asia, filling narrative gaps left by mainstream Indian fiction.

‘To Kill a Tiger’ joins the ranks of impactful documentaries like ‘All That Breathes’, ‘Against the Tide’, ‘While We Watched’, and ‘A Night of Knowing Nothing’. The film reinvigorates the visual language of traditional drama, showcasing the vitality of non-fiction filmmaking in the region.
