April 12 OTT release for Diljit Dosanjh, Parineeti-starrer biopic 'Amar Singh Chamkila'

The much-awaited Imtiaz Ali directorial movie ‘Amar Singh Chamkila,’ starring Diljit Dosanjh and Parineeti Chopra, is set to release on OTT platform Netflix on April 12. The film explores the untold true story of Amar Singh Chamkila, Punjab’s original rockstar known as the ‘Elvis Presley of Punjab.’

Amar Singh Chamkila’s music, influenced by Punjabi village life, focused on themes like extra-marital relationships, coming of age, drinking, drug use, and the fiery nature of Punjabi men. The makers shared a motion poster featuring Diljit as Chamkila, promising to bring the audience the essence of Punjab’s folk music and live performances called Akhadaas.

Parineeti Chopra plays the role of Amar Singh Chamkila’s wife and singing partner, Amarjot, in the film. The music of the movie is crafted by maestro AR Rahman, with lyrics by Irshad Kamil. Both Diljit and Parineeti have contributed their voices to some of the songs, which will be recorded live in the film to capture the raw emotions and energy of the moments.

Produced by Mohit Choudhary, Select Media Holdings LLP, Saregama, and Window Seat Films, ‘Amar Singh Chamkila’ is set to premier exclusively on Netflix on April 12. This unique movie promises to take viewers on a musical journey to the vibrant world of Punjab’s folk music, showcasing an authentic portrayal of Chamkila’s life and music.—IANS
