Coach Biby Thomas names squad for SAFF U16 Women's Cships

New Delhi, Feb 26 (IANS) Head coach Biby Thomas Muttath has announced the 23-member squad for the upcoming SAFF U16 Women’s Championship in Lalitpur, Nepal, from March 1 to 10. The team was selected after a selection trial in Goa and will depart for Nepal on February 27.

This will be the first time the tournament is being held for U16 players. India has a successful history in the SAFF U15 Women’s Championship, winning in 2018 and 2019 against Bangladesh. The squad includes goalkeepers, defenders, midfielders, and forwards who will be representing the country in the championship.

The goalkeepers in the squad are Konjengbam Tamphasana Devi, Munni, and Surajmuni Kumari. The defenders include Amrita Ghosh, Bonifila Shullai, Divyani Linda, Elizabed Lakra, Gauri, Rheanna Liz Jacob, Rupashree Munda, and Sarangthem Alena Devi. The midfielders are Anita Dungdung, Anushka Kumari, Anwita Raghuraman, H Yashica, Longajam Nira Chanu, Ritu Badaik, Shveta Rani, and Thanda Moni Baskey. The forwards are Gurleen Kaur, Gurnaz Kaur, Neha Saji, and Pearl Fernandes.

The squad has been preparing rigorously for the championship and is determined to put up a strong performance in Nepal.
