Indus Appstore by PhonePe Hits 100,000 Downloads in Just Three Days

New Delhi, Feb 26 (IANS) Indus Appstore, India’s new Android-based app store from PhonePe, has exceeded 100,000 downloads within three days of its launch. This milestone highlights the demand for a localized, inclusive, and developer-empowering alternative to existing app stores.

Akash Dongre, Chief Product Officer and Co-founder of Indus Appstore, stated, “Reaching over a lakh downloads in just three days confirms that India is ready for a homegrown app store that prioritizes the needs of its diverse users and fosters a vibrant developer community.”

The rapid adoption of Indus Appstore, especially as a side-loaded application, indicates the strong interest in an app store that aligns closely with Indian consumer preferences. App developers, tech enthusiasts, and users have shown enthusiasm for the zero-commission model, 12 regional language support, and video-led app discovery.

Indus Appstore, launched on February 21 by Ashwini Vaishnaw, Minister of Railways, Communications, and Electronics & IT, received positive feedback from users and developers. Amitabh Kant, G20 Sherpa, Government of India, praised the initiative for its timely creation and support for developers in 12 languages.

PhonePe’s Indus Appstore aims to reach 500,000 users soon, with one million downloads expected shortly. The company’s confidence in Indus Appstore’s unique value proposition reflects its potential to redefine India’s digital landscape.
