Rohit Sharma and Shubman Gill centuries lead India to strong position of 264/1 at lunch on day 2 of 5th Test

Centuries from skipper Rohit Sharma and Shubman Gill have put India in command as the hosts reached 264/1 at lunch on day 2 of the fifth and final Test against England at the HPCA Stadium. Both batsmen dominated the opening session with a 160-run stand, showcasing their prowess with the bat.

Rohit Sharma scored 102 off 160 balls, reaching his 12th Test century with a clip through midwicket off Tom Hartley. Shubman Gill, on the other hand, remained unbeaten at 101, playing aggressively early on. The duo’s partnership was India’s second consecutive hundred stand in the series, keeping England at bay.

Despite England’s short ball tactics, Rohit and Gill stood firm, not allowing the opposition to build any pressure. Gill’s century came shortly after Rohit’s as he slog-swept Shoaib Bashir to bring up his fourth Test century and second of the series, showcasing India’s dominance in the game.

With India leading by 46 runs at lunch, the home team’s total of 264/1 was a testament to the batsmen’s resilience and skill. England, who had been bowled out for 218 in their first innings, were unable to break through India’s solid batting display led by Rohit Sharma and Shubman Gill.
