Mark Ronson nearly didn’t make it with his Oscar-nominated song for ‘Barbie’

Los Angeles, March 10 (IANS) DJ and record producer Mark Ronson revealed that his song ‘I’m Just Ken’ almost didn’t make the cut for the final version of the film’s soundtrack. Nominated for Best Original Song at the Oscars, Ronson shared the challenges he faced in getting the song included in the movie.

Ronson, along with co-writer Andrew Wyatt, initially faced resistance from studio heads who were unsure about the song’s suitability for the film. Despite the initial doubts, Ronson persevered and credits director Greta Gerwig for fighting for the song’s inclusion. He recalled a pivotal moment where Gerwig expressed her unwavering support, stating, “With every inch of my body” when questioned by the studio.

Reflecting on the influences behind ‘I’m Just Ken,’ Ronson described it as a blend of 1970s piano ballad with a touch of prog and hints of the 1980s. Drawing inspiration from Elton John and Bernie Taupin’s style, he likened the track to a mix of Handbags and Gladrags and Robbie Williams. Ronson’s creative process shone through as he shared his thoughts, admitting, “Maybe I’m just overdramatic!”

Despite the initial setbacks, ‘I’m Just Ken’ has made its mark with an Oscar nomination for Best Original Song, showcasing Ronson’s resilience and creativity in the face of challenges. The journey to the final soundtrack of the movie serves as a testament to the collaborative efforts and artistic vision that brought the song to life.

With its unique blend of influences and Ronson’s dedication to his craft, ‘I’m Just Ken’ stands as a testament to the creative process behind the music that enriches storytelling in film. As the Oscars approach, Ronson’s nomination and the story behind the song’s creation serve as a reminder of the intricate work that goes into crafting memorable music for the big screen.
