Saurav Ghoshal hopes for successful performance by Indian squash players in LA 2028 Olympics, comments on sideline of PVL clash

Chennai, March 19 (IANS) With squash set to make its debut as a medal event in the Los Angeles Olympic Games in 2028, Indian squash player Saurav Ghosal expressed his hopes for a strong showing by the Indian players. Ghosal, a three-time Commonwealth Games medallist, shared his excitement about the sport’s inclusion in the mega event on Monday.

Ghosal emphasized the significance of squash being featured in the Olympics, stating, “This is something we’ve been working towards for the last 20 years. And when you have worked so hard for so long and then you finally get it, it tastes so much sweeter.” He added, “But I’m sure, with the athletes that we have at the world stage, we deserve that platform to showcase what we’re all about, and hopefully, the Indian Squash squad will put on a great show in LA.”

In addition to discussing squash’s Olympic debut, Ghosal praised the Prime Volleyball League for providing a platform for budding volleyball talent in India. He commended the league for popularizing a sport that has not received enough recognition and highlighted the impact of renowned coaches like David Lee on Indian volleyball players.

The Asian Games served as a testament to the progress facilitated by the Prime Volleyball League, with promising talents like Santosh, Guru Prashant, and Ashwal Rai making a mark on the big stage after standout performances in the league. Despite finishing sixth, the team showcased potential for the future, paving the way for young players to excel on the global stage.

Looking ahead, Ghosal expressed hope for Indian volleyball to qualify for the Olympics, calling it the “Holy Grail” for sports. He encouraged players to continue progressing and striving for qualification, expressing his heartfelt wish to see an Indian volleyball team at the Olympics in the near future.
