Two arrested after eight years for murder of man in Delhi

New Delhi, March 26 (IANS) Two fugitives, Kabir Nat a.k.a Shakil Khalifa and Bablu Nat, who have been on the run since 2016 in connection with a murder case, were apprehended by the Special Cell in Delhi’s Najafgarh area.

Both the accused, aged 25 and 27 respectively, hail from Samastipur district in Bihar and were declared ‘proclaimed offenders’ by the court in 2018. The arrest was made based on specific information received by the police.

The incident dates back to July 3, 2016, when a dead body was discovered in Som Bazar Gomti Garden in Delhi. The deceased was identified as Bandhu Rai, a contractor from Vikas Nagar, who had invited the accused individuals from Bihar for labor work in the city.

After an altercation, the accused devised a plan to rob and kill Bandhu Rai, with one of them strangling him to death. The post-mortem report confirmed asphyxia due to manual strangulation as the cause of death.

Despite previous unsuccessful efforts by local police to trace the suspects, the Special Cell managed to apprehend Kabir and Bablu near Najafgarh Anaj Mandi following a tip-off. The duo confessed to their involvement in the crime during interrogation.

The Deputy Commissioner of Police (Special Cell) stated, “An argument ensued, during which the three accused individuals devised a plan to kill Bandhu Rai and rob him of his money. Two of the arrested accused restrained Bandhu Rai’s hands and legs, while the third accused, Mohammad Aslam, strangled him.”

The accused individuals have been charged in accordance with the law, and further investigations are underway to uncover any additional details related to the case.
