Emerging actors discuss the significance of stage work in their careers

Mumbai, March 27 (IANS) – Celebrating World Theatre Day on Wednesday, actors Pavail Gulati, Sunny Hinduja, and Akshay Oberoi shared insights on the importance of theatre and the lessons they have learned from it.

Pavail Gulati, known for his work in ‘Thappad’, emphasized the confidence he gained through theatre. He mentioned, “Performing in front of a live audience and getting feedback at the same time is the biggest high for an actor. Going from being nervous to confident on stage knowing you can fail anytime, is what theatre gave me.”

Sunny Hinduja, seen in projects like ‘Aspirants’ and ‘The Family Man’, highlighted theatre as the root of acting. He mentioned, “What is special about theatre is that it’s an actor’s medium. There’s no action or cut. You prepare for weeks for it. The lessons you learn from ground level are enriching.”

Akshay Oberoi, with a background in Theater Arts, emphasized the linear nature of theatre. He explained, “Unlike a movie where you could be shooting the climax first, in theatre, you see the character grow from start to end linearly, which is what is extremely special about the medium.”

Furthermore, Oberoi stressed that theatre teaches individuals how to graph a character’s arc, which proves beneficial when working on films. Additionally, he noted that theatre provides instant feedback and gratification, allowing actors to adjust their performance based on the audience’s reactions during the play.
