Top police officer in Arunachal Pradesh recommends utilizing the services of ‘Gaon Burahs’ in elections

A top Arunachal Pradesh police officer, Inspector General of Police Take Ringu, has suggested utilising the services and support of ‘Gaon Burahs’ (village heads) to ensure smooth Lok Sabha and Assembly polls in the state. ‘Gaon Burahs’ are crucial village level functionaries responsible for development and law enforcement.

Ringu proposed forming committees led by ‘Gaon Burahs’ at the village level to assist election officials, maintain law and order, and prevent any disturbances during the April 19 polls. He emphasized the need to prevent illegal activities such as carrying cash and drugs to uphold the integrity of the elections. Tawang Deputy Commissioner Kanki Darang urged ‘Gaon Burahs’ to play a neutral role and ensure peaceful elections.

The upcoming elections in Arunachal Pradesh will take place on April 19, with elections for two Lok Sabha seats and 50 of the 60 Assembly seats. Ten BJP candidates, including Chief Minister Pema Khandu and Deputy Chief Minister Chowna Mein, have already won their seats uncontested. Vote counting for the Assembly elections will occur on June 2, and Lok Sabha election results will be announced on June 4.

Overall, the article highlights the importance of involving village heads in election processes to ensure fair and peaceful polls in Arunachal Pradesh. The collaborative efforts of ‘Gaon Burahs’ and government officials are crucial in maintaining security and transparency during the electoral process.
